The Maddox and Gaines families have a surprisingly strong bond going back centuries. We now have finer details about three Maddox/Gaines marriages, as shown in this attached Word file. While our Maddox line goes from Charles County, Maryland, to Abbeville and Laurens Counties, South Carolina, to Tennessee, to Kentucky and then to Crawford County, Illinois, we find that the Gaines line goes from Virginia to Abbeville and Lauren Counties, South Carolina, to Kentucky, and then to Crawford County, Illinois. Both families are notable for their strong participation in the Revolutionary War – especially “Hickory Dick” Gaines!

(The GAINES who went to S.C. are my husband’s INDIRECT ANCESTORS.) I HAVE A BOOK IN STORAGE ON THE JAMES GAINES FAMILY IN S.C. ( forgot name of it ) I BELIEVE HIS WIFE ( or one of them?) WAS A WALKER?
Although I have WALKERS in my family IN S.C.(same area) & Columbus County, N.C., I never found a connection to my WALKER family, BUT on the other-hand I never knew much on my WALKER FAMILY EITHER! The farthest I got on them was to 1798 – my 3rd GreatGrandfather & Family – “JOHN DARLING WALKER & wife ELIZABETH JOYNER Married in 1818 of ISLE OF WIGHT VIRGINIA ( dau. Of John Joyner & Sarah Hudson of I.O.W. also). MOST OF THIS INFORMATION WAS FROM A LAWYER, ULLYSIS P. JOYNER OF SOUTH-HAMPTON COUNTY, VIRGINIA IN THE 1970’s.
A couple years ago I found a JOHN WALKER in a DEED in Virginia ( County next to South-Hampton – forgot name) saying he was father of A JOHN WALKER of Isle Of Wight County, Va.,( rest of the info. sound as if he could be MY JOHN’s FATHER? It was never proven by myself, as I have had a lot of medical problems, but my sister says he is!)
